Well, I have finally seen enough of 4th edition to have some initial impressions and my feelings are mixed. Overall, I like what I am seeing, but there are also aspects that look as contrived and arbitrary as what they are replacing.
The new damage system with bloodied condition is interesting, but I like my own ideas of HP and LP being seperate, though I like the bloodied condition and will borrow it for LP damage.. mostly for 4th ed. compatibility.
Great that they are getting rid of the Vancian magic system but I'm not sure they will go far enough at it for my tastes.
In all, I think from what I have seen in the playtest materails (No, I am not a playtester but I have access to some of the documentation), I am already prepared to start taking the steps needed to bring the world I am working out as 4th edition, in line with the release dates of other 4th edition releases. Now, only if I can convince WotC to let me at a pre-release of the 4e SDK.

yeah i have to admit I dind't care for, and wasn't really bothered by aesthetics rulings for the 4th edition (Taking out Gnomes putting in Tieflings) but I do like the idea of the Damage system and how it grows with the character, but I'm unfamiliar with this "bloodied" concept, but if it sounds like I think it does (Characters are worn down by wounds while in combat or maybe it governs how long you can be in combat) then I think it gives the game a cool game mechanic to be used for combat.
I'm looking forward to the 4th edition. While not thrilled in buying new books and such for the summer and all that, or even looking at all my 3.5 stuff as obsolete, I am digging the ideas found inside for sure.
Bloodied.
Actually, I'd have trouble explaining bloodied the way they are using it. It's just a condition that doesn't actually affect a character's own performance. By the current 4e rules, at 1/2 HP damage a character becomes bloodied. The main place that it will have effect in the game is that there are a whole slew of feats, special moves, special monster attacks and maybe even spells that are keyed to only work on bloodied targets.
